On a bitterly cold mid March afternoon, our Year 4 football team competed against 19 other teams from schools across the Redcar and Eston region. In our league, the boys comfortably won, 6-0, 4-0, 7-0 and 8-0. This wonderful display put them through to the semi-finals, which they duly won 1-0. The final was against our near neighbours Normanby. In regulation time, Bankfields had several half chances, but the score remained 0-0, which meant extra-time. In extra time, the score remained 0-0, so we had 2 extra minutes of golden goal play. Still, neither side could be separated. However, Normanby had a great side foot effort from just outside the box which was arrowing to the top right of our goal, until Izak who had had very little to do, sprung like a cat and palmed it away for a corner. A truly stunning save that drew deserved applause from those spectating. It stayed 0-0, so it went to penalties. First up was Jake Ripley, who dispatched it comfortably. Normanby did likewise. Up stepped Jack Hodgson, who stroked the ball into the back of the net. The second Normanby penalty taker stepped up, but the brilliant Izak Sidle (in goal) read it well and pushed it out with a strong right leg. So, up stepped Finlay Roszas. Finlay showed no signs of nerves and powered the ball past the Normanby keeper, which led to jubilant celebrations by the brilliant Bankfields Boys! Next round is at Rockliffe Hall.
