World Book Day - 2018
Birkdale Drive - Christmas Concert
The children of Year 5/6 visited a local retirement home to perform classic Christmas songs and spread Christmas cheer.
Music – Trombones
The children have been learning how to compose and play the trombone with Mr. Baxter from Tees Valley Music. After several weeks of tutoring, the children are now starting to create popular tunes such as Christmas songs and Pigbag.
Evolution and Science
The Children used a range of secondary resources to classify finches and identify their potential habitats.
Tag Rugby Event – Hillsview
A selected group of children had the opportunity to take part in a competitive tag rugby event at a local secondary school. All of the children had a great time challenging other children from across the authority. Bankfields managed to secure a third place finish and received the fair play award.
Practical Maths – Area and Perimeter
Mr Bennett’s Maths class took to the outdoors to investigate the spaces around Bankfields. This was part of their area and perimeter unit. The children spent time measuring the dimensions of the hall, drama studio, playground, MUGA and field. They then used their knowledge of area and perimeter to calculate the area and perimeter of each space.
Judo Workshop
A judo instructor put the children through their paces by introducing them to the exciting contact sport of judo.
Frozen Kingdom - Engage Day
As part of their new topic (Frozen Kingdom), the children of year 5/6 had a chilly but exciting start to this geographical unit. The children spent the day watching thought-provoking videos that linked to global warming, researching in small groups and presenting their findings to their peers. The children found this day very engaging and produced some excellent resources to support them through the next stages of their learning.
Athletics Event – Hillsview
A selected group of children had the opportunity to take part in a competitive athletics event at a local secondary school. All of the children had a great time challenging other children from across the authority.
End of Year Show – We Will Rock You
We would like to say a huge well done to our KS2 children on a fantastic end of year show. After many tireless weeks of rehearsals, the cast and crew delivered a series of outstanding performances.
'Animex' event at Teesside University - Wednesday 29th March 2017
We have had a brilliant day today designing and creating our own short animation video using stop motion cameras. In the morning, we discovered the origins of animation and designed backdrops using paper/pens and modelling clay. In the afternoon, we got straight to work on filming. We had to have patience and determination. Did you know, for every second of video, there needs to be at least 12 frames from the camera? Robin and Will helped us to create our animations and Robin will be working hard to edit our creations ready for the Premiere Screening on Sunday 21st May. We can't wait to show off our hard work to our families!
Year 5 STEM morning at Inspire to Learn - Wednesday 21st March 2017
The Year 5s had a great morning learning about science and technology. Working in teams, we participated in various activities led by local businesses and discovered the key skills needed for future jobs in science and engineering.
Life Centre and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art - Newcastle Upon Tyne - Friday 17th March 2017
One of our highlights so far this year has been our Science trip to the Life Centre in Newcastle. We think that our faces show how much we enjoyed it!
World Class Maths at Inspire 2 Learn - Tuesday 7th March 2017
Some of our Year 6 children took part in the World Maths Tests with children from other schools. The tests challenged us to think and reason mathematically to solve a range of problems. We love a challenge!
World Book Day - Thursday 2nd March 2017
To celebrate World Book Day, we dressed up as our favourite book character for the day. Where's Wally, Harry Potter and the Queen of Hearts all came through our doors.
Maths Investigations - February 2017
Additional Physical Education Sessions - Spring Term 2017
Alongside our usual clubs and P.E. lessons, we have been lucky enough to take part in football, netball, tag rugby, swimming and hockey competitions. In addition, each class has had their go at a couple of boxing sessions. Take a look at how we got on. Big smiles all round!
Robinwood Activity Centre
Our annual residential pilgrimage to the Pennines was terrific. Once again, the weather was kind and here you can see a small amount of the fun we had.
Brandan scales the heights of the aerial zipwire and soars high above the ground.
Destination Judo!
Destination Judo came to visit in September and children in KS1 and KS2 donned their gowns and really looked the part. They jostled, jockeyed and sparred to get a better grip and throw their partner before being thrown themselves. James even managed to launch the much heavier black belt instructor, sending him crashing to the mat!
Charlie had fast hands getting to Kieran’s shoulders first. Katie B managed to throw Katelyn (who seemed to enjoy being flung onto the mat)!
Dance Mat Festival, Hillsview Academy
At the October Dance Mat Festival with the School Sports Partnership, one of our Dance Troops came away with first place medals. Congratulations to our dancers: Grace, Katelyn, Fay, Aleesha, Charley, Keisha, Evie and Lilly.
Lucy and Jarrod discovered their hidden dance mat talents and worked brilliantly together in the pairs dance off.
Keisha and Katelyn exceeded all expectations and won more gold, bronze and silver stickers than anyone else!
Table Tennis Club Just over two years ago, Bankfields formed a Table Tennis club. Since then, we have had team successes and on a personal level. Both boys and girls have won Sports Partnership Competitions and Katie Bates was recently ranked number 6 in the country! Under the guidance of Hong Peebles and Mr Sidgwick, we have introduced new talent to the club and they are already showing great promise. This website uses cookies, or tiny pieces of information stored on your computer, to verify who you are when you are logged in to the administration area.
