MFL

At Bankfields, our children are offered the opportunity to learn about different cultures and understand diversity. Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) helps all of our children to broaden their experiences and understanding of languages and apply this to everyday life.

Our MFL curriculum focuses on the four key language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. This comprehensive approach ensures children develop a well-rounded understanding of the language, enabling them to communicate effectively and confidently. Through these skills, we encourage resilience as children face challenges in mastering pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar, fostering perseverance and determination.

We aim to inspire high aspirations by demonstrating how language learning can open doors to exciting opportunities, from travel to career prospects. By exposing our children to different languages and cultures, we support their cultural enrichment, helping them appreciate the richness and diversity of the world around them. These experiences help to develop curiosity and a love of learning as children explore new ways of thinking and communicating.

Our curriculum supports phonetic understanding which is applied to varied and creatives tasks. We also ensure children can engage with the MFL curriculum in their wider school life, enriching their experiences and reinforcing their learning in diverse and meaningful ways.

Learning a new language contributes significantly to children’s wellbeing, as it builds confidence and provides a sense of achievement. Engaging lessons and activities create a fun and inclusive environment where children feel encouraged and supported.

At Bankfields, we strive to build curiosity and broaden horizons, ensuring that our MFL curriculum equips children with the skills and knowledge to become confident, compassionate global citizens.
