Music

At Bankfields Primary School, our music curriculum intends to inspire creativity, give the children the opportunity to express themselves and to develop a lifelong love of music. Music can support the development of key life skills, such as confidence, self-awareness, perseverance, resilience, and promote positive wellbeing through experiences that our children can take beyond their musical studies. It is our intent that our music curriculum will develop self-confidence and enjoyment of the subject through performance, both through participation in music lessons and wider extra-curricular opportunities, including Steel River Academy Trust events. Our music curriculum will inspire and encourage creativity through the teaching of composition skills across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.

Every child at Bankfields Primary School has the opportunity to achieve their musical potential and to have high aspirations through, playing, singing, composing, appreciating and listening to music. Through assemblies, concerts, lessons and instrumental performances, children will be able to express their emotions and musical talent. Our pupils are given regular opportunities to showcase their musical knowledge, skills and understanding of performance, which will support them in developing a love of learning in music as well as providing opportunities to celebrate their success, progress and achievements.

We are incredibly fortunate at Bankfields Primary School to have access to specialist music teachers through Tees Valley Music Service, who provide instrumental lessons in violin, guitar, drumming, recorder, flute and many more. This means that all pupils leave Bankfields Primary School being able to play at least one instrument. Our pupils also have the opportunity to develop their singing skills in both after-school choirs and multiple drama performances which take place in our drama studio. Our talented Music Subject Leader plays live music in our assemblies each Friday, so that the children have the opportunity to enjoy listening to music from a range of historical periods on the flute, clarinet and saxophone.
